Holidays

Holidays are GREAT. There are no rules, we get to have fun, (ideally) switch off from work, and, in most cases, we can shed layers of pressure and stress and just be.

Holidays are also a time of reflection for many. Where we get that rare opportunity to step out of the hamster wheel of life, and to think about the things that we would like to change.

You may come back from your break with intentions (and/or freckles and a well-rounded belly) to make these changes, but alas, fast forward a week, and you’re knee deep in the juggle of work / life, you’ve run out of loo roll, and there’s a deadline to meet. Our best intentions to make positive changes in order to lead a more fulfilling life, go down the plug.

My invitation to you is this - take one step. ONE.

While you’re lying on that sun-lounger, basking in the sense of freedom* and clarity, think of one step you can easily take, once you get home, to move you towards your goal.

You want to change career? Who could you set up a coffee with to talk through this?
You want to get a better work / life balance? Draw up a list of what “good” work / life balance looks like then come home and implement just one of those adjustments.
You feel unhappy about where you live? Come home and draw up a spreadsheet of finances and see what might be feasible in terms of making a move.

When we break down our goals into smaller steps, it can feel far more manageable to make changes. And by taking just one step, you turn a “that would be a great thing to do” into a “let’s do this”.

*massive assumption on my part that a) you are on holiday without needing to care / take care of anyone b) there’s a kids club.
